Meet the Founders

Kavi Seidman

Kavi is a sixteen year old Venice local who attends Venice High. Growing up, he often felt isolated and stuck in his own head, and he found solace in exploring literature and developing critical thinking. Through these acts of self education he developed his own philosophies and outlooks on life. Through Turning Pages LA, he aims to inspire other people and help them explore themselves in order to understand the world around them. Kavi is an athlete, a scholar, and (most importantly) a writer. Through a passionate study of psychology, sociology, philosophy, and anything humanities related, writing and education helped him understand himself and other people. Kavi believes there is a huge lack of this education in public schooling and aims to fill aspects of this void through his love of books and community service.

Sebastian Eckstein

Sebastian is a Venice local who attends Vistamar High School in El Segundo. Since a young age, Sebastian’s has been extremely passionate about athletics, whether that be soccer, football, basketball, or the gym. However, Sebastian never felt he aligned with the typical “Jock” stereotype. He always loved to read, especially poetry and philosophy. He is a motivated student, and is fascinated by sociology, writing, and psychology. This passion for school and love for sports left Sebastian torn between what felt like two separate lifestyles. That was until he realized he didn’t have to choose. Being well-read and educated actually compliments athleticism, not the other way around. The same goes for supposed “theater kids”, “class clowns”, or any other silly role younger people might feel they need to fill as they enter adolescence. Reading isn’t just for “nerds”, or even people interested in school. Books should be seen as cool, as a sign that you have real interests and goals. Sebastian hoped to promote this message by co-founding Turning Pages LA and advertising his own interest in literature, showing that everyone can and should read.
